We are pleased to welcome you to the beautiful Wadrill Valley!

We offer two apartments: the RABBIT (HASE) and the WULF (WOLF).

The apartments are each equipped with their own kitchen/living room, a separate bathroom and two single beds, which can also be put together as a double bed. With a lot of love we have decorated the HASE and the WOLF piece by piece, renewed them regularly, exchanging decorations and furniture.

In the Vintage Apartment WOLF we also welcome dogs. Therefore, this accommodation is rather not suitable for allergy sufferers. You are welcome to book the Vintage Apartment HASE, where we do not allow pets.

We are happy when our guests feel comfortable. Because that is the greatest compliment for us!

APARTMENT HASE

The HASE is the smaller apartment (approx. 36 sqm), without balcony, suitable for 2 persons. The large window offers a view into the garden. More here…

The apartment HASE is located in a very quiet area and consists of a nice living-bedroom, a bathroom and a cosy little kitchen-living room with everything you need.
The HASE is located on the 1st floor (stairs!). The apartment is lovingly and individually furnished in vintage style and has a total of 2 beds plus an extra mattress. From the window there is a beautiful view into the garden and directly into the 100 year old walnut tree.

The HASE is furnished in such a way that the motto is: Come in and feel at home!

Please note that smoking is not allowed in the apartment.

The most important spices (vinegar, oil, sugar, salt, pepper, paprika, herbes de Provence, …) are available.

Dishwashing liquid, dish towels, sponges, rubbish bags, etc. are also provided.

Please note: We separate waste very carefully and ask our guests to respect this and make the effort to sort waste into the bins provided. The environment and we thank you!

APARTMENT WOLF

The WOLF is larger (approx. 50 sqm), suitable for 2-3 persons, and has a balcony. The bed for the 3rd person is a sofa bed and is located in the kitchen-living room.

The apartment WOLF has a small hallway, a spacious bathroom, a cosy eat-in kitchen with a buffet and barstools and sofa bed as well as a separate living room with desk, balcony and 2 single beds. The WOLF is very suitable for up to 3 people.

The WOLF is located on the 1st floor (stairs!).

From the balcony, which faces south-west, there is a great view towards the Hochwald forest and you can watch the sunsets.

It has been lovingly and individually furnished in vintage style and has a total of 3 beds.

The Wolf is equipped in such a way that the motto is: Come in and feel at home!

Smoking is prohibited in both apartments. There are ashtrays for smokers on the balcony and in the garden.

HOUSE & GARDEN

In the idyll of the Hochwald Black Forest in the Wadrill Valley, I bought an almost 100-year-old farmhouse. We have renovated it as far as possible with a concern for preserving the old substance and sustainability as well as environmental aspects. And we are continuing to renovate… We are already heating with pellets and wood, but soon a photovoltaic system will be installed.

The house was built in 1928 as a farmhouse of broken stones and wooden ceilings filled with straw, which was common in this area at that time.

The entrance was originally on the right side of the house. The current entrance door was the entrance to the barn. Here are more pics from the house and the garden

We tried to keep as many of the old elements as possible, like some of the doors from 1928 or the wooden bars or the shell-look exterior stucco. We were able to revive some of the original wall paint from the 1920s (the rooms were painted very colourfully back then!).

The solid construction makes the house very breathable. Goodbye mould, but you will never get it as tight and silent as a new building…. Fortunately! The ceilings are creaking, the old doors are squeaking.

The furniture has been lovingly restored and „upcycled“ in our own small atelier.

The garden is large with old trees, a small garden pond, barbecue area, various seating areas and a small vegetable garden. Here are more pics from the house and the garden

INFORMATION

The Vintage Apartments are located in Wadern in the village of Wadrill in the Wadrill Valley. With a view of the village church and situated on the edge of the village in a very quiet area.

Directly behind the house the fields and the forest begins. With a bit of luck you can see deers and hares at the edge of the forest, hear the fox and the young owls calling. Last year we had four (!) black storks nesting in the forest. This year, a heron and a kingfisher have already visited us.

Wadrill has a church, a very good butcher’s shop and a small grocery shop that offers freshly baked bread. Everything is within 5 minutes walking distance.


Gastronomically, our village can offer 2 pubs (drinks only), a bakery with a breakfast cafe, the Bistro Tebecks (very tasty food and a beautiful beer garden) and the Pizzeria Valerio, which is also delivering.

There is also a beverage market and a lovely flower shop, a hairdresser and a chiropody salon. Everything is within walking distance of a maximum of 15 minutes.

Always worth a visit and with a great view is the „Hochwaldalm„, the only one of its kind in Saarland with a cosy little restaurant.

The town centre of Wadern with the HACO shopping centre and a commercial area with many shops is about 6 km away. The restaurant Dompropst is also highly recommended, located directly on the market square, where every Friday there is a market. Every last Wednesday of the month there is an additional larger market.


WADRILL and the WADRILL VALLEY

The Wadrill Valley, combining the villages of Wadrill (that’s where we are!), Reidelbach and Gehweiler, lies on the steeper flanks of the Black Forest Hochwald ridge and belongs to the town of Wadern, which is situated in the northernmost landscape of the Saarland, the so-called „Hunsrück foreland“.

The town of Wadern is the third largest town in the small province of Saarland because of its size. Yet it has just about 16,000 inhabitants on an area of over 11,000 ha. You can imagine that we certainly have a lot of space here…

In the ranking of the travel portal „Der Reisereporter„, Wadern made it to 3rd place in the top 10 of the most beautiful small towns in southern Germany.

Wadrill is located in the relatively young Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park, which was only established in 2015. There are several award-winning hiking trails in the immediate surrounding area, such as the Saar-Hunsrücksteig or the Tafeltouren or the Traumschleife Almglück.

There is a lot to discover around it. Not only nature, but also various chapels around the village, as well as castles such as Grimburg castle with its witch museum, Dagstuhl Castle with its ruins, chateau, chapel and painting contessa.

Also worth a visit are the Peterberg with a summer toboggan run, the aircraft museum in Hermeskeil, Villa Borg, the Celtic Wall in Otzenhausen, the Abbey in Tholey with the famous church windows by Gerhard Richter and the fantastic artist Mahbuba Maqsoodi and much more…

Trier, Saarburg, the Moselle with all its pretty wine villages are about 35 minutes away by car. Losheim with its lake and wide range of leisure activities as well as the Bostalsee are within 20 minutes by car.

Depending on the route you choose, you can drive between 35 and 45 km to the famous and beautiful Saarschleife through a fantastic landscape and also pass the Villeroy & Boch factory outlet in Mettlach.

ART & PIECES

The paintings and decorations in the flats are partly painted by Otto Steffens, the previous owner of this house and a former artist and graphic Designer. The other part is cremtest by me.

If interested, further artworks can be viewed in the atelier room in the private flat.

All works of art can be purchased by request.


DIRECTIONS

Coming from the A1, take the exit Nonnweiler. Follow the signs to Wadern and then Wadrill for approx. 7 km on the rural road (L365). In Wadrill turn left into Peterstrasse. At the end of the road turn right into Schneiderstrasse. At the point where Schneiderstrasse meets Zollweg, turn sharp left. We are the yellow house right on the corner.

PARKING

You can park your vehicle in front of the front door for unloading and loading.

Free parking is available within a 3 minute walk on Hermeskeiler Straße directly below the church, opposite the kindergarten.
